The 1974 photo on our Sands T-Shirt is of the Great Sand Dunes National Monument in Colorado. This photo was taken by a facsimile camera: a camera that records a series of vertical lines that are then pieced together into a panoramic view. In 1975, this same camera design was used by NASA’s Viking Lander to take pictures of the surface of the planet Mars.
